For the last few years, the City Council has entertained the idea of eliminating the vehicle sticker program, as it inconveniences the residents on an annual basis. In August, the City Council voted to replace the inefficient vehicle sticker program with a Municipal Electric Excise Tax at $.0044 per kWh. Residents will now no longer need to purchase an annual vehicle sticker. The new municipal tax will be automatically reflected on your monthly ComEd bill. This move keeps Lockport competitive with the surrounding communities, all of whom have a much higher per kWh rate, with the exception of Crest Hill who charges $.0041. Furthermore, some communities have both a higher electrical rate and a vehicle sticker requirement.
